Preventing Harassment on Campus
Course customized for educational institutions
Numerous educational institutions - such as Yale University, Georgetown University, the University of Nebraska, the University of Southern California, and Daytona Beach Community College - have selected Preventing Harassment on Campus to train their employees on this critical topic.
Recent Supreme Court decisions and EEOC guidelines have made it clear that all employers, including educational institutions, should not simply hand out an anti-harassment policy but must actually provide training to each employee on how to prevent sexual harassment and other forms of harassment in the workplace. In addition, recent Supreme Court decisions and U.S. Department of Education guidelines have made it clear that educational institutions must provide training on how to prevent harassment of students.
Recognizing the unique needs of educational institutions, Global Compliance's Brightline Learning Division has created a version of its critically-acclaimed online course, Preventing Workplace Harassment, that specifically addresses the harassment issues faced by employees of educational institutions. The course, Preventing Harassment on Campus, uses many of the same scenarios and exercises found in Preventing Workplace Harassment but they are set in an educational environment. In addition, the course includes an extra module for instructors, administrators, and coaches on how to identify, prevent, and report employee-on-student and student-on-student harassment.
The extra module addresses issues such as:
- How do you balance the tension between an instructor's lawful expression of his right to free speech and academic freedom and students' rights to be free of harassment in the classroom?
- How do you draw the line between one student's free speech rights and another student's right to be free from harassment on campus?
- Do harassment laws apply only in the classroom or do they also apply in other educational contexts?
- What is my institution's policy on instructors and other employees dating students?
